CFAR JULY 2023 NEWSLETTER

The mission of Center for Families and Relationships is to strengthen and build resiliency in families by providing individual, family and couples counseling utilizing a holistic approach to treatment. We are partners in parenting, empowering members of the family to make a permanent, positive change towards becoming productive members of their own families, and of our community as a whole.

Organizational News

We’ve been talking about all of the exciting growth that CFAR is experiencing, but we haven’t really talked about the many challenges that have come with this growth. A larger client base requires a larger team of therapists, and both of these require significantly more administrative support. In order to maintain our incredibly high standards for service quality AND continue to grow to serve more families in dire need of our services, CFAR is working to strengthen our infrastructure and create a plan for strategic growth. This is why we are so excited that we were awarded $1.8 million over 5 years from The Pew Charitable Trusts! Read on for more information about the grant.

Special Announcement!

We are incredibly honored to announce that Center for Families and Relationships has been awarded a significant grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts! CFAR will be receiving $1.8 million over five years in flexible support to undergo a business planning process, with the goal of expanding our therapy services significantly. This expansion includes doubling our client base and opening two new physical sites. In order to reach these ambitious goals, CFAR will need to grow our workforce, grow our internship program, and significantly strengthen our administrative and technological infrastructure. This is the largest grant in CFAR history and marks an exciting turning point for our organization.

“We look forward to having the capacity to serve so many more Philadelphians in need of crucial mental health services over the next few years" says CFAR CEO Jordan Brogan "and we are so grateful to Pew for awarding this funding at such a key moment in our growth." This funding is part of $6.55M that Pew recently awarded to address Philadelphia’s youth mental health crisis, and you can read more about Pew and the other grantees here in their press release.

Together Through Trauma

Our Together Through Trauma program expansion into Philly rec centers is in full swing! The programming includes counseling for individuals who have been directly impacted by gun violence and we welcome referrals. You can make a referral through this form, or call 215-537-5367 ext 4005 with questions. Trauma Therapists are working to see clients at 6 rec centers (CB Moore, Mander, Rumph-Mallery, 8th & Diamond, Tustin, and Feltonville) and they are also available for virtual sessions. In addition to counseling, the TTT Team has started to roll out workshops and raise awareness in the communities.

Partner Highlight: WURD Radio

Every summer, WURD Radio embarks on a Summer of Freedom Tour where they highlight the importance of Philly Rec Center programming. This summer, they are featuring CFAR’s Together Through Trauma program! The tour involves a radio broadcast and tables where partners can share information with the community. The first event at was on July 13th at Rumph-Mallery Rec Center, and it was a great kickoff. WURD interviewed CFAR CEO Jordan Brogan and TTT Trauma Therapist Christina Fogle, and we had a chance to speak about TTT with partners and community members who stopped by our table. We’re excited for the next events in the series: Tustin Rec Center on July 20th, Mander Playground on July 27th, and 8th & Diamond Playground on August 10th. Reminder: CFAR Movie Night on August 18th

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for CFAR’s 3rd annual movie night on Friday, August 18th at 7pm at Pelbano Rec Center (8101 Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19152.) We will be screening “Sing!” and providing free drinks and snacks, as well as information about our services. RSVP not required, but let us know that you’re going to join us on the Facebook event, and share it with friends!
