CFAR October 2024 Newsletter

October 10th was World Mental Health Day, and CFAR is so proud to provide critical counseling services to vulnerable communities that need it the most. This year, World Mental Health Day organizers are highlighting the vital connection between mental health and work. “Safe, healthy working environments can act as a protective factor for mental health.” This is something that is incredibly important at CFAR. Our clinical team has been busy with the usual uptick of appointments in the fall, and they still continue to make time to help each other, share expertise, and connect over snacks and activities too! The work is rewarding and exhausting, and the way the team supports one another through it all is incredible.

On September 30th, the Eagles hosted A Safer America, an event dedicated to discussing gun violence prevention. Local, state, and federal government leaders, along with individuals working in the space of gun violence prevention, discussed the progress that has been made in anti-gun violence as communities began to take action around the area, and how the work will need to continue to bring the number of deaths by gun violence down more and more. CFAR’s CEO Jordan Brogan and members of our Together Through Trauma team, were honored to join the incredible partner organizations working on violence prevention that were in attendance. During the event, CFAR was recognized as one of the 2024 Eagles Social Justice Fund grantees- more news about that grant to come!

Together Through Trauma (TTT) has received a lot of recognition in Philadelphia for the program’s impact, and along with that has come some critical funding. We were thrilled to hear that the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office awarded TTT $25,000 through the Philadelphia Foundation to support workshops and outreach around trauma. During the press conference announcing the grantees on October 15th, DA Krasner stated “While we continue to see a truly historic decline in gun violence nationally and in Philadelphia, we can’t let our foot off of the gas. That’s why my administration is thrilled to continue helping community-based groups that have contributed largely to this drop in violence. Through ongoing violence prevention and modern law enforcement efforts, we will curb violent crime even more.”
